Nome Izakaya Happy Hour: Two Dozen Oysters for Around $80
Disclosure. I paid for my own meal. One appetizer was free through the membership, and this post isn't sponsored.
On Halloween (Oct 31) we went to Nomé Izakaya North York, at 4848 Yonge St, just north of Sheppard, and ordered off the happy hour menu. Most of the food is $10 and under.
What we ordered
- Two dozen buck-a-shuck Malpeque oysters ($1 each with the membership)
- Salmon sashimi on ice ($10)
- Bulgogi cheese fries ($10)
- Stamina hotate, a scallop dish ($9.80)
- Raw octo-wasabi ($8.80)
- A 12 oz Sapporo ($5) and a white sake sangria for my wife ($6)

It was a big spread, and everything was great. We had a really good time.

What it cost
The bill came to about $80 for all of that, thanks to the VIP membership. It gives happy hour prices 24/7 and $1 oysters, and one of our apps was free as the members' free appetizer.
About the membership
For $1 the first month, then $26.99 a month after that, you get a free appetizer or dessert every visit, $1 oysters every day, happy hour prices 24/7, "sumo size" drink upgrades, sake bottle discounts and a free birthday meal. You can join here.
Fair warning: the $1 first month is the hook. If you go to Nome often, the membership pays for itself fast. If you don't, cancel before the second month bills.
The health side
Most of what we ate was raw: oysters, sashimi and the raw octopus. Raw seafood like this feels fresh and doesn't leave you weighed down, and since it isn't cooked, it keeps heat-sensitive nutrients like delicate vitamins and healthy fats intact.
There is a catch. Raw seafood can carry bacteria and other microorganisms, so there's always some risk. Eat it from a place you trust, and if you're pregnant, older or have a weakened immune system, think twice about raw shellfish.
This isn't medical advice, and we're not telling you to follow any diet or nutrition plan. We're just telling it like it is from our own meal.
The verdict
Value: 4 out of 5
It's great food and a great time at a price that's hard to beat. If you're a regular, the membership is worth it.
